
Landau Murphy is a frontrunner on season six of 'America's Got Talent'
Landau Eugene Murphy is back on stage in tonight’s live two hour broadcast of “America’s Got Talent.” You probably already know the 36 year-old singer from Logan, West Virginia helped pay the bills by washing cars at a dealership near his home.
Here’s a few fun facts you might not know:
1. He was inspired to sing after watching a skit on “Saturday Night Live.”
In the 1982 skit, Joe Piscopo was doing a parody of Frank Sinatra. For his “AGT” audition, Landau sang one of Sinatra’s biggest hits: “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”
2. He’s officially off the market!
Landau married longtime girlfriend Jennifer Carter in 2005. He credits her with encouraging him to sing in public in 2003.
3. Before washing cars, he waited tables
Employees at Shoney’s – a family comfort food restaurant in Dunbar, WV — say Landau was known to burst into song and entertain customers.
4. Karaoke is a family affair
His wife, Jennifer, is also a talented singer. The couple enjoy singing karoake together at local West Virginia bars. “Purple Rain” is one of their favorites to do.
5. You can call him Landau…
…but co-workers at Mike ferrel Toyota/Scion – where Landau is head detailer – refer to him as “Dooney” or “Dooney Rod.”
6. He’s a big fan of The King of Pop
“I remember him winning a Michael Jackson talent show when we were kids,” his brother says.
