Say it ain’t so, Piers!
AGTNews.com can confirm that Piers Morgan – the only judge remaining from ‘America’s Got Talent’s first season – is leaving the show, effective immediately.
The never-short-for-words judge announced his departure Wednesday evening on “Piers Morgan Tonight.”
“Well, members of the Academy, I’m available!” he joked, in reference to the unexpected resignation of Eddie Murphy as host of The Academy Awards.
“My schedule just cleared a bit because I can exclusively reveal that I’m leaving ‘America’s Got Talent’ … I’ve loved every single second but discovered that juggling, to my surprise, really is a bit more difficult than I thought.”
“So I’m going to focus on what’s going to be a huge year here at CNN, with the upcoming election. I’d like to thank NBC, Fremantle and my great friend Simon Cowell for giving me such a wonderful opportunity on that amazing show. And I want to congratulate Sharon, Howie and Nick, who will doubtless be very relieved to learn they no longer have to work with me.”
Prior to taking over for Larry King at CNN, Piers had extended his contract with the top rated variety series through 2013.
No replacement was named. Last night, fellow judges took to Twitter to react to the news:
@MrsSOsbourne: “Piers Please don’t go.”
@howiemmandel: “I guess I’m more annoying than I thought. I’ll miss you @piersmorgan”
Best of luck, Piers. we’ll miss you!
