Cedric The Entertainer gave a ringing endorsement to booted contestant J. Chris Newberg

Piers Morgan might not think he’s funny — but newly-eliminated comedian J. Chris Newberg has found a famous fan in Cedric The Entertainer.

During a visit to the ‘AGT’ set Wednesday night to promote his new NBC series “It’s Worth What?” Cedric said Newberg was his favorite act in the competition.

“He has got an odd sense of humor,” the comic told AGTNews.  “I thought he was unique in his point of view.  He will probably still do well.  I thought his quirkiness and his own kind of demeanor is something that can go a long way in this business.  Talented folks will see it, and the industry will see it.”

Cedric said Newberg should “stay true” to his act and not worry about the criticism from Morgan and others.

“The thing about sitcoms and standup is it is all about that unique voice,” he said.  “So I would say try to stay true to that unique voice and don’t become bitter about things when they don’t work out for you.”

We caught up with Newberg after the show.  Here’s what he had to say:
