Uh, oh! The $15 million Howard Stern experiment isn’t turning out as planned.
Overnight ratings for the ridiculously publicized season seven premiere of AMERICA’S GOT TALENT actually dropped with the addition of the controversial radio star.
NBC’s highest rated summer show for six years scored a mere 10.3 million viewers (and a 3.6 rating) Monday night — that’s down 16 percent from last year!
One problem: well, Stern of course. Hundreds of readers have commented on AGTNews.com that they will not allow the foul mouthed shock jock into their living rooms. But that was before anyone had a chance to see him in action.
Stern proved to be fair, compassionate and refreshingly funny in his AGT debut — even if he did tend to hog the spotlight for much of the first hour.
The bigger issue last night was stiff competition: ABC’s DANCING WITH THE STARS is down to just four celebrities while CBS comedies HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, MIKE AND MOLLY and TWO AND A HALF MEN all ran their season finales.
In two weeks only THE BACHELORETTE will pose a serious ratings threat — and with word that Stern is not, in fact, the Devil in sunglasses, expect more and more curiosity seekers to tune in.
