The Weekly Top 10: Who Is On Top?

With this season’s Top 48 acts ready to compete in Hollywood next Tuesday, it’s time to reveal our first ‘AGT Weekly Top 10’:  the way we think acts will rank when a champion is crowned on September 13.

Results are based on overall performance, diversity of the act, audience reaction, judges remarks, internet commentary, and how similar acts have fared in the past.  We have absolutely no knowledge of actual voting results.

Results will be updated each Thursday morning.

RANKINGS FOR WEEK 1 (Performances through July 6, 2011)

PREVIOUS
#1 LANDAU EUGENE MURPHY, JR. (Singer) The West Virginia car wash owner has got the singing chops, the fan support and a great back story.  If he can branch out beyond Sinatra songs, there are only a few who can challenge him this season. N/A
#2 LYS AGNES (singer, 27) Opera singers have a history of finishing second on ‘AGT’ (Jackie Evancho, Barbara Padilla).  This retail worker from Denver should fair at least as well.  She lost her fiancé two years ago in a car wreck – a story that will no doubt endear her to many. N/A
#3 ANNA GRACEMAN (Singer, 11) We haven’t had a kid winner since 2006, but Anna has the ability to become even bigger than Bianca Ryan was.  We might have picked her first, but she loses points for being left off the “Judges Favorites” list in Vegas. N/A
#4 TEAM ILUMINATE (Light-up Dancers) Their act is perfect for Vegas, but how high can they raise the bar in this contest?  Fighting Gravity looked like the frontrunner coming out of Vegas last year but lost some steam after the novelty of their act wore off.   Still, a lock for the Top 10. N/A
#5 POPLYFE (Band, 12 – 15) These funky dressed teens are being groomed by some of the best in the business – including producer D’Wayne Wiggins of Tony Toni Tone.  Be confident they have a few tricks up their sleeves. KehLani Parrish is a star in the making. N/A
#6 MELISSA VILLASENOR (Comedian) She might not have debuted so high on our list if it wasn’t for the judges’ vote of confidence, passing her straight through the Vegas round.  Still, she’s funny and likable and her impressions of Kathy Griffin and Barbara Walters were hysterical. She should rack up lots of votes. N/A
#7 DANIEL JOSEPH BAKER (Singer-Pianist) This guy could be a contender based on personality alone. He will appeal to the same crowd that got Prince Poppycock to the Final Four last season.  In a word: Fierce! N/A
#8 FRANK MILES (Stunt Juggler) Sharon is already a little afraid of this guy after the Vegas knife stunt, but he should be able to tone the act down and win her back.  Frank, who performs his death-defying stunts at motivational speaking engagements, is easily one of the most dangerous and exciting acts of the season. N/A
#9 SCOTT ALEXANDER (Magician) ‘AGT’ can’t have a Top 10 without at least one magician.  (There’s a rule about that, right?)  Scott may not be as impressive – yet – as Michael Grasso from last year, but we think he will go far. N/A
#10 SILHOUETTES (Dancers, 9 – 18) Every bit as eye-catching as Team ILuminate, but this could be a one trick act.  These 38 kids from Denver are extremely talented, but they may have trouble topping the audition and coming up with enough fresh performances to finish any higher. N/A
