Sharon Osbourne is f—ing with America. Or her bosses. Or both.
Yesterday, the longest tenured judge on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT caught millions of fans (not to mention producers and NBC execs) off guard by Tweeting: “My darling @HowardStern, money is not the reason I’m not returning to @nbcagt, it’s because…”
Then, radio silence. Until today.
Wait — not returning?
Some reports suggested that Mrs. O was planning to spend more time in Los Angeles with her family. (Son Jack, 26, was recently diagnosed with M.S.)
Others indicated that she was upset by being completely overshadowed on the judges panel by new addition Howard Stern.
In an interview with E! News, Sharon was asked point blank if she intended to abandon the show she has judged on for six seasons. Her answer: ”I am leaving. But I am going over to AMERICAN IDOL to join Mariah.”
Oh, right. Of course she is!
There were also jokes about moving to CBS to start a late night talk show with Howard Stern.
“You’re going to stay with AGT. I’m going to American Idol with Mariah Carey,” Stern shot back.
The radio host then later said out loud what many people were already speculation: ”She’s negotiating. It is called a negotiation.”
There is probably some truth to that — though we hear from sources very close to the show that Sharon has several years or options remaining on her contract.
It is more likely that the whole thing was just a poorly thought out publicity stunt to bring some attention to the show as ratings continue to dive.
For now, we can all try to figure out what Sharon meant by cryptically telling E: ”I will be here today, tomorrow…”
